Setting up photos |
Our class had to set up out photos on display in the exhibition hall today! It was really hectic; in the morning, most of us bought our materials from the art supply shop and started cutting, slicing, sticking and decorating in accordance to our respecting themes. There was rubbish flying everywhere.

You can see how considerate we are about the cleanliness of the college. |
And you know what DIDN'T help? The fact that the exhibition hall was so narrow and you could smell the sweat everywhere cause it was so cramped. Seriously, i kid you not; the second you step over the boundary into the corridor, you could feel the mustiness clinging to you in the air and there'd be this hot, stuffy feeling all around you, like the feeling of wet socks. Ew.
But on the bright side, we got everything done by evening! =)
My photography assignment was about the night market. Or as we call it in Malaysia, pasar malam. Initially, my idea was to capture the contrasting elements in the night market, but because of the way i edited it, my lecturer said i sorta 'forced' people to look at the point of interest. The way i edited it was by desaturating the entire image, but only leaving the point of interest in colour. Sorta like the colour splash method, but i left in the object of interest instead. So..yeah. That kinda ruined the whole assignment for me.
I was really, really, really, REALLY disappointed at first, but i tried to accept it as a learning point and move on from there. So i asked my tutor to help me check through all the photos i took during the past 6 weeks and recommend the photos i should choose. In the end, the topic focused on the shopkeepers and their products in the night market. Most of the composition consists of repeating patterns and leading lines.
I titled it 'Minders of the Market', because the photos focus on the shopkeepers = shop-minders.

This is my spot! =) |

This was how we booked our spot. By sticking our picture there =D |
Some of the decorations were really crazy. Here are some of my favourites!

Follow the chains for the storyline. |
I really like this one cause of the chains, eventhough the storyline went haywired towards the end. You can see how everything clumps up, haha. It portrays the storyline of the Black Rock Shooter OVA(or was it anime?) with photos of chibi figurines. Or nendoroids, as my classmate says.

Mamak Store! |
I particularly like this one because of the banana leaves that my classmate used. I think the combination of the banana leaves and newspapers really contributes to the theme of the mamak store. But the leaves will probably turn brown by the end of the two weeks, heh.
Somehow this display gives me this warm and fuzzy feeling inside. Sorta antique. And i really like the photos cause they make you think, too. It shows the relationship between the mother and the son, but through objects. Quite interesting =)

A number of people commented about how unfortunate this bear was. |
Heh, i took that portrait of my friend and edited it! =D I like this one because there's a bear!! Haha, no really. I only like this because it's funny. The bear is a girlish item and yet it's holding the photo of the photographer, who looks like she's about to kill someone. In fact, that one photo is completely in contrast with the whole theme of this shoot. Heh. But it wasn't my fault that we had to shoot according to first impressions.

Lego people! =D |
The classmate that was shooting this focused on Lego people. Hence, the whole yellow colour. I think i like this one because of all the effort put into it. Eventhough the finishing was a little rough, i really liked it because he took the time to stick all the Lego people inside the frame for display. He even cut out plastic sheets and stuck them over the frame so that no one could steal them!

Camera! |
This topic was about street photography. The camera display is interesting, but you can see that the buttons are cut off because there's not enough space. I really really like the instagram box, though. Heheh.

Crinkled up brown paper! |
Poor guy. I heard he stayed up all night to do this. But it turned out quite lovely in the end =)
So yeah, that's basically a summary of our first individual exhibition! =) I'd write more, but if i did, i'll be going on and on about how i felt and that would be boring.
